Real scale test of friction dampers and elastomeric bearing working as one unit. The test carried out in order to estimate performance of friction-damper-based seismic base isolation system. Seismic isolation of a structure reduces the transfer to the structure of ground motion produced by an earthquake. Several types of base isolation systems have been proposed and investigated. The number of projects with such systems is increasing in different places around the world and the base isolation systems have proved their value through many earthquakes. Friction dampers are often an essential component of these base isolation systems because they represent a high energy dissipation potential at low cost and are easy to install and maintain.
