Today, as a result of international disaster risk reduction programs established to support the idea of resilient communities against natural hazards, there is an increasing motivation toward the initiation and improvement of seismic risk reduction strategies in developing countries located in earthquake prone regions. Unfortunately, despite of considerable efforts, the level of seismic vulnerability in most of under developed area in the world has not been improved adequately. Devastating earthquakes in Haiti (2010) and Nepal (2015) are bells tolling for similar vulnerable countries to emphasize the necessity of the reviewing and reassessment of already implemented programs. There are obstacles and challenges must be known and tackled to facilitate the efficient progress toward a sustainable seismic resilience in developing countries. The earthquake engineering can participate in solving important existing issues such as development of risk-based vulnerability assessment procedures, localized indigenous seismic provisions, and innovative simple and affordable rehabilitation methods and materials. Two special sessions are organized at 16WCEE focusing on the “role of earthquake engineering on the improvement of the seismic resilience” and “challenges slowing down the efficient implementation of provided seismic codes and provisions” under codes of 57SS and 59SS, respectively, to cover the most important aspects describing the promotion of seismic resilience in developing countries;
57SS "The Role of Earthquake Engineering on Seismic Resilience in Developing Countries; Experiences, Challenges, and Prospects " (Organized by Prof. Ghafory-Ashtiany)
59SS "Building Code Implementation in Developing Countries: Issues and Challenges"(Organized by Prof. Ghafory-Ashtiany)

Instructions for abstract submission for Special Sessions

Abstract submission for special sessions, is available only by online form. There will be not accepted by email.
The link is the same for the abstracts submission for ordinary sessions. Please, in the first question of the online form select "yes" for displayed the specials sessions.
Please see the chart below with the specials sessions list and its unique code per each one.
