The “Money For Nothing” episode of Holmes Makes It Right took me back to when Mike Holmes and crew would help out a family who basically got robbed by contractors.

The homeowners in this week’s episode got a flier that promised a better kitchen than they probably ever intended of delivering. The photos of the kitchens shown on the flier were kitchens that Mike Holmes claimed were $30-$40,000 kitchens but they promised prices half that.

Even though you do feel really bad for the homeowners, you do have to point the finger at the homeowners for failing to do their own homework into the contractors in question and maybe being a little too trustworthy. As much as we would all like to see the good in people, there are a lot of bad people out there.

Perhaps the best piece of information that came out of this episode is that the contractors were caught and were taken to court. They were alleged to have ripped off at least seventy homeowners with their remodeling scams. Wow. Very rarely does it seem these contractors are held accountable. It’s nice to see the police managed to get these people. Hopefully they did serve jail time and pay fines.

Now as far as the remodeling of the home, this was a pretty standard kitchen job. Mike and crew definitely went overboard with the quality of the materials. Over $60,000 was spent on that kitchen. Yeah, the kitchen cost over $60,000. I don’t think my ENTIRE home is worth HALF that. Mike, care to help me out?

The bold paint color in the kitchen proved a little too much. No one seemed to love the purplish blue and I can’t blame them. It was a little much. When I saw them painting the wall, I thought it would be nice as an accent wall, but not the entire room.

I really liked “Money For Nothing”. It allowed Mike Holmes to pat the police department on the back for once because in this case they did find the people responsible for ripping off dozens of families. I know my family was ripped off by a contractor years ago. I know how it is. Keep up the good work.
